James "Jimmy" E. Pick

James Eugene “Jimmy” Pick age 77 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the Arbor Care Center in Hartington.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be at St. Michael’s cemetery in Hartington with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post #5283 and the American Legion Riders. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday from 9-11:00 a.m. at church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Urn bearer will be his brother, Kelly Pick.

James Eugene was born on April 24, 1947 in Yankton, SD to Alfred A. and LaVerne V. (Becker) Pick. He grew up in Hartington and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1966. Jim served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War from 2/15/1967 until being honorably discharged on 11/14/1968. Jim received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Overseas Bars, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Sharpshooter (Rifle) Medal. After the service Jim worked construction before joining his brother Bob Pick in the irrigation business. Jim then worked heavy equipment for Doernemann Construction in Clarkson, NE. Jim married Mary Lee Christ on November 10, 2014 in Center, NE.

Jim belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Jimmy had a big personality and loved a good conversation. Jimmy collected classic cars and loved to bring his treasures to the car shows and trade stories with other owners.

 Jim is survived by his wife Mary of Hartington; brothers Bob (Sheryl) Pick of Smithville, MO, Kelly (Margaret) Pick of Norfolk; sister Patti (Joe) Vig of Yankton, SD; sisters-in-law Vickie Pick of Wayne, Diane Pick of Wayne; brothers-in-law Ken (Adeline) Hanel of West Point, Ron (Jackie) Hanel of Clarkson; many nieces and nephews.

 Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and LaVerne Pick; brothers Gary and Randy Pick; nephews Brian Pick and Mason Vig.

 Memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or the Hartington VFW or to a charity of your choice.
