James F. “Jim” Stevens, age 64 of Omaha, Nebraska and formerly of Hartington, Nebraska died on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the Josie Harper Hospice House from cancer. He was the son of Fritz & Norma Stevens.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington, Nebraska with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be at the St. Michael’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
There will also be a Celebration of Life for Jim, in Omaha, on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Barrett’s Barley Corn at 3:00 p.m. at 4322 Leavenworth Street, Omaha.
James F. Stevens was born on October 5, 1954 in Omaha, NE. His parents were Fredric “Fritz” and Norma Stevens of Hartington. Jim graduated from Hartington Cedar Catholic High School in May of 1972. He then graduated from Wayne State College four years later in 1976. Jim moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana where he was the Golf Pro for 10 years.
Jim was a member of the Cedar Catholic Golf Team, as a freshman, that won the Nebraska State Class B Golf Tournament. Jim was a State Golf qualifier each year while in High School. Jim was the Hartington City Golf Champion for nine out of ten years. He gave lessons to many hopeful golf enthusiast starting in his high school years After 15 years as a golf pro, Jim moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he started South Omaha Vacuums which he operated until his health deteriorated and prevented him from continuing.
Jim is survived by his brother Tom Stevens of Yankton, SD; numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fritz & Norma Stevens, aunts and uncles.
