James A. “Jim” Eickhoff, age 87 of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 10:30 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington, Nebraska with the Reverend Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be in the St. Michael’s Cemetery in Hartington with military rites provided by the Hartington VFW Post 5283 and the Hartington American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington on Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm with a vigil service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be Rollie Eickhoff, Mark Eickhoff, Bill Eickhoff, David Eickhoff, Larry Eickhoff, and Brian Pinkelman.
James Allen Eickhoff was born on December 23, 1931 in Hartington, NE to Martin and Cecilia (Becker) Eickhoff. He was the oldest of ten children. Jim attended three different country grade schools and Holy Trinity High School. He moved to California where he met his wife Sheila (Houde) Eickhoff. The two were married on September 28, 1996 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Maywood, California. While living in California, Jim worked for the Pacific Telephone Company until returning to the good earth of farming in Nebraska. Jim served in the United States Army from 1952 – 1954 and he was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife Sheila Eickhoff of Hartington, NE; brothers Rollie & Bev Eickhoff and family of Kearney, NE, Norman & Daisy Eickhoff and family of Tucson, AZ, Sidney Eickhoff of Centreville, VA, Mark & Carol Eickhoff and family of Westerville, OH, Bill & Julie Eickhoff and family of Hemingford, NE, David Eickhoff of Yankton, SD, Larry & Catherine Eickhoff and family of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters Judy Pinkelman and family of Hartington, NE, and Mary Jean & Rod Pinkelman and family of Plymouth, MN.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Susan Eickhoff, and brother-in-law Gary Pinkelman.
