Irene E. Jacobs, age 97 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be at the St. Michael’s Cemetery in Hartington. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services. Go to www.wintzrayfuneralhome.com. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matthew Wieseler, Michael Wieseler, Nathan Wieseler, Colton Jacobs, Dakota Jacobs, Wyatt Jacobs, and Zach Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters Sarah Hinds and Devin Jacobs. Irene Elizabeth was born on December 11, 1921 in Hartington, Nebraska to Casper and Lucy (Thoene) Promes. She grew up the Bow Valley, Nebraska area and went to school at Bunker Hill country school until the 8th grade. Irene’s father died when she was sixteen and from that point she stayed on the farm to help her mother and brother with the farming. She was married to George P. Jacobs on November 26, 1957 in St. James, Nebraska. They moved to the Wynot area in 1966 where they farmed until moving to Hartington in 1998. George died on December 30, 1999 at the age of 74 years. Irene lived in her home in Hartington until October 30, 2014 when she moved into the nursing home. Irene was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, its Ladies Guild, Christian Mothers and was a member of the Perpetual Adoration. She was also a member of the Wynot American Legion Auxiliary Post #31. Irene was a former President and Vice President of the St. James Altar Society. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, canning, tending to her flower beds, playing Dominos, and belonged to several card clubs. Irene was an amazing cook and baker along with being an excellent sewer and doing embroidery work. Irene loved to spend time with her family, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. Irene is survived by her three children and spouses, Marlene (Danny) Wieseler of Hartington, Dennis (Jeri) Jacobs of Newcastle, Alan (Maureen) Jacobs of Wynot; nine grandchildren Matthew & Jamie Wieseler, Sarah & Adam Hinds, Michael & Nathan Wieseler, Colton & Shelby Jacobs, Devin Jacobs, Zach & Jessie Humphrey, Dakota Jacobs, and Wyatt Jacobs; six great grandchildren Gage Jacobs, Zander Humphrey, Ava and Adilyn Hines, Abel and Will Wieseler. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George Jacobs; brother Alfred Promes.
