Henrietta Mary Ann Sudbeck, age 88 of Bow Valley, Nebraska died on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at her residence.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley, Nebraska with the Rev. Darin Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Bow Valley. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be her eight sons – Gerold, Dale, Steve, Don, Dean, Daryl, Leo, and Russ Sudbeck
Honorary pallbearers will be her six daughters – Judy Stratman, Janice Higgins, Donna Gowery, Mary Wieseler, Renae Lowe, and Betty Staker.
Henrietta Mary Ann was born on February 29, 1936 in Menominee, NE to Henry and Elizabeth (Feldhacker) Schroeder. She grew up in Menominee and attended elementary school there. Henrietta did a lot of babysitting and house cleaning before she married Donavin William “Bud” Sudbeck on October 25, 1955 at St. Boniface in Menominee. She and Bud spent time in California and in Iowa when they were first married before moving back to Nebraska to farm. She and Bud raised 14 children. Henrietta worked at the Freeman Company in Yankton, SD in manufacturing and then worked for Sudbeck Service in Bow Valley and Stop-N-Go in Hartington. She worked at the Wynot Public School in the cafeteria until 2020.
Henrietta belonged to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Bow Valley Park Association. She had a strong dedication to God, her husband (Bud) whom she missed dearly after his passing and raising her 14 children. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Henrietta had a lifetime of raising chickens and a big garden. She also enjoyed the birthday trips to the casino with her family and watching the Wheel of Fortune with her belated husband. She and Bud eventually moved into Bow Valley. Bud died on April 30, 2010 at the age of 74 years.
She is survived by her 14 children – Gerold Sudbeck of Phoenix, AZ, Dale (Janel) Sudbeck of Crofton, Steve Sudbeck of Anchorage, AK, Judy (Mark) Stratman of Bow Valley, Janice (Rich) Higgins of Bow Valley, Donna (Terry) Gowery of Wynot, Mary (Kevin) Wieseler of Bow Valley, Renae (Rick) Lowe of Story City, IA, Don (Wendy) Sudbeck of Wynot, Betty (Jeff) Staker of Story City, IA, Daryl (Jen) Sudbeck of Bow Valley, Dean (Stacey) Sudbeck of Wynot, Leo Sudbeck of Hartington, Russ Sudbeck and Tasha of Hartington; 34 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and one due in June; seven siblings James (Renee) Schroeder of Yankton, SD, Bernadette (Ed) Lange of Hartington, Alice Klug of St. Helena, Dorthy (Arlynn) Schmidt of Elk Point, SD, Daniel (Joan) Schroeder of Crofton, Allen (Cindy) Schroeder of Fordyce, David (Sally) Schroeder of Irene, SD; brother-in-law Keith Pinkelman of Bloomfield; sisters-in-law Cheryl Schroeder of Yankton, SD, Phylis Larson of Torrance, CA, Marlys (Larry) Klanderud of Bellevue; brother-in-law Ron (Norma) Sudbeck of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews;
Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband Donavin (Bud) Sudbeck after 54 years of marriage; her parents Henry (Elizabeth) Schroeder; siblings Margie (Urban) Kathol, Joseph Schroeder, Charles Schroeder, Leander Schroeder, Kathy Pinkelman; brother-in-law Jerry Klug; brother-in-law Bob Larson; and grandson Blair Hillman.
