Harry R. Olson

Harry R. Olson age 97 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Laurel with Rev. Charity Potter officiating.  Burial will be at the Laurel cemetery.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to services at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel.

Pallbearers will be Troy Becker, Paul Jacobsma, Dave Dendinger, Greg Lackas, Brian Oberhelm, and David Badley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harry’s Great Grandchildren: Maci, Marlie, McKenna, Gavin, Lanie, Ella, Lydia, Lilly, Ava, Sloane, April,Emma, Carly, and Derek.

Harry Olson was born October 19th, 1925 in Saint Edward, NE to Anton and Hilma (Jónson) Olson. Harry grew up on a farm near St. Edward, NE. In March 1939 he moved south of Laurel and helped his Dad farm until he married. On May 28th, 1950 Harry married Jeanette Alice Eby, they were blessed with two children, Sandra and Michael. Harry and Jeanette farmed 48 years northeast of Coleridege, NE. They returned in Laurel 2008 to Laurel, NE.

Harry was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Laurel, Laurel Lions Club, and Senior Center Pool Players. He was an avid pool player and was playing pool up to two weeks before his passing.

Harry is survived by his wife of 72 years and 10 months, Jeanette of Laurel;  daughter, Sandy (Mike) Becker of Winnetoon, NE, son, Mike Olson and special friend Donna Christoffers of Sergeant Bluff Iowa;  5 grandchildren

(Michelle) Mark Kroupa of Hadar, (Christi) Tyke Bartes of Omaha, (Troy) Maria Becker of Pierce, (Elizabeth) Paul Jacobsma of Elkhorn, (Emily) Olson of La Claire IA; three step grandchildren (Liz) Lane Woods of Fargo ND, (Josh) Penny Anderson of Le Mars IA, (Ryan) Angie Anderson of Rapid City SD; great grandchildren Maci Kroupa and Fiancé Derek Drudik of Sutton, Marlie Kroupa of Hadar, McKenna, Gavin, and Delanie Bartes of Omaha, Ella and Lydia Becker of Pierce, Lilly, Ava, and Sloane Jacobsma of Elkhorn, step great grandchildren April Woods of Fargo, ND, Emma and Carly Anderson of Rapid City SD, And Pest, the Cat.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents Anton & Hilma Olson; daughter-in-law Sue Richards Olson; brother Herb (Glen) and wife Sue Olson; two infant brothers born in Sweden.
