Gertrude “Gert” Moore, age 89, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Avera Sr. James Care Center in Yankton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM on June 15, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Larry Regynski officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on June 14, 2018 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a rosary at 6:45 PM and a vigil service at 7:00 PM.
Pallbearers are Rick Moore, Tom Moore, Doug Moore, Terry Moore, Jim Moore, and Tom Zaruba.
Gertrude “Gert” Moore was born November 15, 1928, in Platte, South Dakota to Bernard and Marie (Leibrich) Hanten. She grew up and attended school in Platte and then attended Mount Marty College in Yankton where she studied nursing and graduated becoming a registered nurse. She married Donald “Tim” Moore on November 13, 1950 in Platte, South Dakota. They lived in Yankton after their marriage, where Gert worked the night shift at the Human Services Center for over 50 years. She first retired in 1993 but then continued to work part-time until 2007.
Gert was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton, distributing communion to the homebound, serving on the funeral lunch committee, and participating in the prayer chain. She was also a member of the Gayville American Legion Auxiliary. Gert was an excellent cook who enjoyed canning, crocheting, quilting, and playing pinochle. She loved having her family together and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her six children: Rick (Joni) Moore of Norfolk, Nebraska; Tom (Joyce) Moore of Mission Hill, South Dakota; Doug (Benay) Moore of Huntington Beach, California; Terry (Bonnie) Moore of Lino Lakes, Minnesota; Jim (Dianna) Moore of Omaha, Nebraska; and Tammy (Tom) Zaruba of Victoria, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters: Bernadine Crilly of Sioux City, Iowa; Arnold Hanten of Platte, South Dakota, Mary (Leon) Kleinschmidt of Omaha, Nebraska; and Mathew (Flora) Hanten of Miramar, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald “Tim” Moore on July 17, 2007; daughter-in-law, Sharlene Moore; two sisters, Eleanor Hanten and Margene Hanten; two brothers, Joseph Hanten and Charles Hanten; three brothers-in-law, William Moore, Robert Moore and Eugene Crilly; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Hanten and a niece, Nancy Crilly.
