Gerald E. Foxhoven age 92 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Avera Majestic Bluffs in Yankton, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Constance with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s cemetery in Constance with military rites by the Crofton American Legion Post #128. Visitation will be on Monday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to services at church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.
Pallbearers will be Brock Foxhoven, Justin Foxhoven, Jason Babcock, Trent Schieffer, Travis Jueden, Tyler Jueden, Brandon Miller, and Austin Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren, great grandchildren and Jackie Wieseler.
Gerald was born on January 23, 1928 in Crofton, Nebraska to Henry and Veronica (Feldhacker) Foxhoven. He grew up in Crofton and attended elementary school there. Gerald later received his high school diploma in 2002 because he started farming full-time at the age of 15 after his father died. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on February 28, 1951 until July 14, 1952 at which time he was honorably discharged due to his mother’s terminal illness. He married Ruth Ann Wortmann on September 7, 1955 in Bow Valley, Nebraska. Gerald continued to farm with his brother Art, raising livestock, grain, and milking cows. Gerald also worked on the construction of Gavin’s Point Dam.
Gerald was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Hartington VFW Post #5283 and Crofton American Legion Post 128. He liked to play cards and listen to the Crofton baseball games on the radio.
Gerald is survived by his wife Ruth of Crofton; five children and spouses Galen (Brenda) Foxhoven of Crofton, Janel (Dale) Sudbeck of Crofton, Gerri (Pat) Feilmeier of Hartington, Sherry Schieffer of Crofton, and Jeanine (Shane) Miller of Farmington, AR; 17 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild; seven siblings Angeline Ryan of Cedar Rapids, IA, Beatrice Poppe of Crofton, JoAnn (Ray) Poppe of Crofton, Damian Foxhoven of Wapakonete, OH, Daniel (Fran) Foxhoven Weslaco, TX, Darlene (Konrad) Maibaum of Crofton, Joseph Foxhoven of Crofton; sisters-in-law Dolores Foxhoven of Yankton, SD, Arlene Foxhoven of Bloomingdale, OH.
Preceding Gerald in death were his parents, infant son Billy Joe, son-in-law Galen Jueden; granddaughter Marie Foxhoven, sister Roseline Gubbels, brothers Art and Henry; brothers-in-law Don Ryan, John Poppe, (Louis) “Doc” Gubbels, sister-in-law Vivian Foxhoven.
