Galen F. Hartman, age 88 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel. Funeral Services will be on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Laurel with the Rev. Isaac Chua officiating.  Burial will be at the Laurel cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday, June 2nd from 3-5:00 p.m at the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel.  Visitation will continue on Monday, at church, one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Ryan Schutt, Jacob Schutt, Mitchell Hartman, Jon Mullen, Darin Hartman, and Ben Kneifl. Galen Francis Hartman was born on November 18, 1930 near Newcastle, Nebraska to Bert and Marguerite (McClary) Hartman.  He attended school in Maskell and Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1948.  Galen was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in 1952.  He married the love of his life, Joan Christiansen on August 7, 1954 at the Crawford Valley Methodist Church in Plainview, NE.  Galen and Joan permanently located in Laurel, Nebraska where Galen was employed by the Laurel Coop Creamery, later known as AMPI. Galen was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in the Laurel Chamber, the Lions Club, and also served as president.  He helped set up the Nebraska Dairy Fieldman’s Association and served as its first President. Galen is survived by his wife, Joan of Laurel; three children Monte Hartman of Casper, WY, Debra “Deb” Schutt of Sioux City, IA, Troy Hartman of Laurel; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother and spouse Derwin (Alice) Hartman of Elkhorn, NE; two sisters Mildred Christiansen of Elkhorn, Sharon (Russ) Breitkreutz of Wisner. He was preceded in death by his parents Bert & Marguerite Hartman; brother Fay Hartman; two sisters Shirley (Ken) Hammer, Donna (Jerry) Beck, son-in-law Dennis Schutt, and grandson Micah Lynn Hartman.
