G. Louis Hans

Louis Hans, age 98 of Wynot, Nebraska, died on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the Hartington Care and Rehabilitation Center in Hartington. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot with the Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wynot with military honors by the Wynot American Legion Post #31 and the American Legion Riders. Visitation will be on Friday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, at church, one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Rob Hans, Randy Bruening, Jesse Jasnoch, Stan Hans, Bill Bruening, Mark Hans, Steven O’Morrow, and Drex Cushing. Honorary pallbearer will be Garrett Hans. George Louis Hans was born on February 9, 1920, in Wynot, Nebraska to George A. and Mary Barbara (Koch) Hans. He grew up in the Wynot area and graduated from Wynot High School in 1937. Louis served in the U.S. Army from February 18, 1942, to December 11, 1945. He then was enlisted in the Army Air Corps Reserves from 1945 until 1952. Louis married Clara Catherine Bruening on June 7, 1949, in St. Helena, Nebraska. He farmed with his brother Gerald (Jiggs) Hans and then on his own. Louis spent his life as a farmer; he raised grain and livestock and had a dairy operation. Louis continued to help his son harvest crops until a few years ago. Louis was a pillar to his family, symbolizing great strength, positivity, integrity, and diligence. He was a man of his word and wisdom teaching life lessons, saying “please” and “thank you” and setting an example of being kind. These characteristics filtered through to his sons and daughters and to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louis was loved and known by many as a sweet and caring man who could make anyone feel special in just a few words. His handsome smile brightened up the room, his precious, gentle laugh drew the attention of many, and his weathered hands made a presence like no other. Louis was a member of the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) church, the Knights of Columbus, Wynot American Legion Post 31, Wynot Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wynot School Board for 24 years. Louis and Clara loved dancing and going to Homewood Park in their younger years. Louis is survived by his seven children and their spouses, Mike & Julie Hans of Wynot, Gary & Tricia Hans of Foley, AL, Marilou & Jack Jasnoch of Omaha, David & Kristi Hans of Chanhassen, MN, Paul & Jill Hans of Omaha, Amy Hans of Omaha, and Neil & Christine Hans of Omaha; 21 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; one sister Mary Jo O’Morrow of Concord, NC; sister-in-law Mary Ann Hans of Yankton, SD; brother-in-law Don Bruening of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Clara on July 19, 1991; grandson Garrett Hans, sister Henrietta Hans; three brothers Wilfred (Bill), Marcus (Jim), and Gerald (Jiggs) Hans; sisters-in-law Jean Hans, Leota (Sim) Hans; and brother-in-law Gerald O’Morrow.
