Evonne Ruth Magnuson, age 96 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord, Nebraska with the Rev. Christine Hjelmstad officiating. Burial will be at the Concord Cemetery in Concord. Visitation will be on Friday, March 29th, at the church in Concord from 5-7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at church on Saturday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Tindall, Nicholas Tindall, Mark Magnuson, Ann Magnuson, Ron Magnuson, Dennis Magnuson and Nancy Reinhardt. Karma Magnuson will be the candle lighter.
Evonne Ruth was born on November 10, 1922 in Concord, Nebraska to Wymore W. and Ruth (Peterson) Wallin. She attended Cedar County rural school and Concord Public School, graduating in 1940. Evonne attended Wayne State Teachers College and received her Elementary Certificate in 1942. She taught at the Atkinson and Hartington Public School. Evonne was on the local draft board in Dixon County during World War II. She married Wallace Magnuson on December 6, 1947 at Concordia Lutheran church in Concord, NE. The couple lived in Concord for nine years as a partner in M & E Service. In 1955 the couple moved to the Magnuson family farm southwest of Concord where they farmed for 30 years. Evonne worked as a secretary at the University of Nebraska Extension and Research Center at Concord, NE for 20 years. Upon her retirement in 1984 the couple moved to Laurel. She enjoyed fishing, traveling to other states for Army reunions, visiting family, spending time with her grandchildren. Evonne enjoyed a trip of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand. She had a special love for hymns and sacred music. Evonne’s faith helped her through many illnesses, especially cancer. Evonne set many goals to accomplish such as learning to oil paint and cake decorating. She quilted for the church and for her children and grandchildren. She even learned to golf after her retirement. Evonne belonged to a card club and liked to go dancing.
Evonne was a lifetime member of the Concordia Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and married.
Evonne is survived by three children; two daughters Diane (Jim) Tindall of Denver, CO, Denise Magnuson of Conifer, CO; son Dale (Beth) Magnuson of Spencer, Iowa; four grandchildren Lucas Tindall, Nicholas Tindall & wife Amanda, Mark Magnuson, Ann Magnuson; one great grandson Noah Tindall; one step great grandson Elijah DeLack; sisters-in-law Marilyn Wallin and Helen (Wallin) Jackman; many nieces, nephews, and cousins
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wallace in April of 2008; brothers Arlen Wallin and Winton Wallin; several sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces & nephews.
