Evelyn L. Sedlacek, age 98, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Funeral services are 10:30 AM, on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend David Wildermuth officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Wednesday, July 17 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Pallbearers are Darrik DeLozier, Brian Eddie, Laddie Novak, Dustin DeLozier, Cody, DeLozier, Andrew DeLozier, Joshua Nieman, Jeremy Nieman and Jake Nieman. Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Sedlacek, Mason Sedlacek, Nick Sorenson, Brady Sorenson, Josh McQueen and Jared McQueen.
Evelyn was born September 7, 1920 on a farm in Wayne County, Nebraska to Alexander and Anna Marie (Walker) Stamm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural schools and graduated from Randolph High School in Randolph, Nebraska in 1938. In 1940, Evelyn married Melvin DeLozier. After their marriage, they farmed north of Randolph for several years and then moved to a farm near Magnet, Nebraska. They were divorced in 1959 and Evelyn moved to Yankton. She worked at several different places in Yankton but spent the last 20 years of her working career in the business office at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital. In 1970, Evelyn married Stanley Sedlacek and they enjoyed over 30 years of marriage together. Evelyn loved to work in her garden and plant flowers. She also enjoyed cooking, dancing, camping, golfing and listening to music. She was a loving, caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Evelyn is survived by six children: Jerry DeLozier of Yankton; Nyla Eddie of Carroll, NE, Jim (Mary) DeLozier of Castle Rock, CO, Doug (Cheryl) DeLozier of Brooksville, FL, Suzy Harmsen of Omaha, NE and Melissa (Randy) Nieman of Fremont, NE; five step-children: Joe Sedlacek of San Diego, California, John Sedlacek of Yankton, Jim (Shelly) Sedlacek of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Jerry (Polly) Sedlacek of Port Orchard, WA, and Mary Pat (Bruce) Sorenson of Yuma, AZ; son-in-law, Loran Tramp of Yankton; 19 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; twin sister, Adeline Thompson of Omaha; sister, Marjorie Spatz of San Clemente, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley Sedlacek on January 15, 2003; daughter, Kathy Tramp; daughter-in-law, Bev DeLozier; son-in-law, Delmar Eddie; two grandsons, Matthew DeLozier and Brad Eddie; four great grandchildren: Katie Novak, Kara Eddie, Kellyn Rozeboom and Bergan Koehler; two brothers, Rueben and Alex Stamm; and three sisters: Mary O’Connell, Rosie Carlson and Lillian Reed.
