Erwin W. Rastede, age 100 of Laurel, Nebraska died on Monday, February 03, 2020 at the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel, NE.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Laurel, Nebraska with the Rev. Jeffery Warner officiating. Burial will be at the Concord Cemetery in rural Concord, Nebraska. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Laurel, Nebraska.
Erwin Wesley Rastede was born on May 29, 1919 on a farm east of Concord, Nebraska to Dietrich “Dick” Herman & Frieda Catherine (Holdorf) Rastede. He was baptized in Martinsburg, Nebraska and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church east of Concord. Erwin attended rural school at Myrtle Creek in Dixon County. In 1940, he went to Idaho and worked harvesting potatoes. After harvest season he returned to Nebraska to farm with his father. In 1944, Erwin married Ella Marie Cogdill in Coleridge, Nebraska and began farming on his own east of Concord. In 1946, he moved to a farm 2 ½ miles SE of Laurel on Highway 15 and farmed nine years at that location. In 1955, the Rastede family moved to a farm 2 ½ miles south of Laurel where he farmed until his retirement in April of 1984. He however remained on the farm site for many more years. After retiring from farming, Erwin remained actively working for Art Lipp Construction and on Wednesday’s at the Laurel Sales Company, Inc.
Erwin is survived by two children Gary (Judy) Rastede of Concord, Diane Piper and friend Ron Meyer of Jefferson City, MO; four grandchildren, Brian (Shanna) Rastede of Hoskins, NE, Teresa (Steve) Claude of Waverly, IA, Kristi Rastede of Norfolk, NE, Jason (Mindy) Piper of New Bloomfield, MO; six great grandchildren Jaden, Nevaeh, Braxton, Kianna Rastede of Hoskins, NE, Vailen Claude of Waverly, IA, Andrew Piper, Alexis and C.J. Mears all of New Bloomfield, MO.
Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Frieda Rastede.
