Elizabeth Clara Arens, age 96 of Parkville, Missouri, died on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at St. Luke’s North Hospital in Kansas City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington, Nebraska with Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be in the Hartington City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, SD. Elizabeth (Betty) Arens was born in Hartington, NE to John William and Julia Alvina (Peterson) Ward on July 14, 1922. She attended Holy Trinity School in Hartington. Elizabeth married Edmund L. Arens on January 2, 1940 in Hartington. They lived in the Bow Valley and Hartington area until 1951. From 1951 to 1954 they lived in Pickstown, SD; 1954 to 1965 in Manhattan, KS and in the Kansas City, Missouri area since 1965. She was a homemaker and her life revolved around her family. Her interests included depression glass, quilting, traveling, playing cards, dominoes and bowling.
Elizabeth is survived by her children John (wife Rosie) Arens, Kenneth Arens, Kathryn Adolph, Karen Baker and Dee Etta (husband Richard) Prentice, twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, her sister Delores Klima and many nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Edmund L. Arens on June 19, 1983 at the age of 70, daughter Edna Marie Hand, son Gerard Francis Arens, twin great-grandsons Steven Alexander Adolph and Ryan Philip Adolph, mother, father, two brothers and four sisters.
