Elda Flint

November 14, 1960 — August 3, 2024

Gayville

Elda Flint, age 63, of Gayville, South Dakota died on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.

A private family service will be held in the columbarium at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.

Elda Rae (Cummins) Flint was born just before Thanksgiving on November 14, 1960, to Eldon Cummins and Frances Tamblyn in Casper, Wyoming. She was the oldest of 3 with brothers Rodney and Marvin. At the tender age of 7, Elda tragically lost both her parents and was brave enough to leave the only home she ever knew in Wyoming with only a doll and no suitcase moving to Newcastle, Nebraska where she was taken in and raised Aunt Pearl Cummins. Elda adjusted to living in rural Nebraska from her ranch life in Wyoming graduating from Newcastle High School in 1980. She had plans to attend Northeast Community College to purse an accounting degree after graduation, but chose to work full-time.

With dreams of a family, Elda had two daughters, Ashley in 1984 & April in 1985. She always had fun dressing Ashley in all pink (because that is all Ashley would wear) and dressing April in the yellow or blue with them so close in age. Few years later, Elda had two sons, Cody in 1988 and Kyle in 1990 making her dreams of a big family come true.

She was a single mom raising 4 children most of her life until she met Victor Flint, a Sailor stationed in Washington and were married shortly thereafter. The family loved living in Washington with views of Mt. Rainier. Moments and memories were made while traveling down the west coast, across the southwest, and into the southeast making their next home in Virginia. On the East coast, Elda and Victor enjoyed traveling with the kids trying different flavors of saltwater taffy and watching for dolphins before moving back west to the beaches of California.

Sadly, August 2, 2015, she tragically lost her youngest son, Kyle. Although Elda tried to heal, she just never truly recovered from it. Elda’s health started to decline and in April 2023, she had to move into the Avera Majestic Bluffs residential care facility when she lost her ability to stand and walk.

In earlier years, she enjoyed decorating the house for the holidays, baking and frosting cookies, holiday shopping with her daughters’ and gaming with her sons. Her favorite job in the world was being a mother to her 4 kids. Her kids were her life, and her kids gave her the life she needed when she lost her family at such a young age.

She will be deeply missed and is survived by her husband of 24 years- retired Navy Veteran, Victor Flint of Gayville, SD, oldest daughter Ashley McGill of Ankeny, IA, daughter April (Jeremy) Jensen of Gayville, SD, son Cody (Billie) McGill of Yankton, SD, brother Marvin Cummins of Casper, WY, and 3 grandchildren: Jade, Hunter, and Peyton.

She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother Rodney Cummins, aunt Pearl Cummins, son Kyle McGill, and father-in-law Neil McGill.
