Elaine H. Hochstein, age 84 of Hartington, Nebraska, passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be at the St. Michael’s cemetery in Hartington. Visitation will be on Friday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services at church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be her seven sons: Dale, Kirk, Neal, Nick, Karl, Glen, and Greg Hochstein
Elaine Helen Mary was born February 23, 1934 to of Florenz & Veronica (Lammers) Burbach. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School in May of 1952. Elaine married Donald Hochstein on June 2, 1953 at St. James. She and Don lived in Laurel from 1954-1960 before returning to the home farm northwest of Wynot. Elaine sold Avon beauty products for 35 years. As a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Wynot, Elaine was an active member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, arranged the altar flowers, and taught 2nd grade religion for many years. They retired in Hartington in November of 1992. Elaine was a member of the Holy Trinity Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers, Ministry of Praise and Perpetual Adoration. She moved to Park View Haven in Coleridge in January of 2010.
Elaine is survived by her husband Don, Coleridge. Survivors include fourteen children, Jane & Richard Mehaffey of North Bend, NE; Ann & Lee Shepherd of Rapid City, SD; Susan & Terry Hupp of Spearfish, SD; Dale & Laura of Wayne, NE; Kirk & Barb of Wayne, NE; Joyce & Roger Paseka of Prague, NE; Nancy & Doug Vrbka of Brainard, NE; Brenda & Doug Hummel of Omaha, NE; Neal & Sharlee of Wynot, NE; Bette & Keith Becker of Hartington, NE; Nick of Wayne, NE; Karl & Carroll of Ankeny, IA; Glen & Pam of Seward, NE; and Greg & Stephanie of LaVista, NE; 48 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; sister Phyllis & Bill Huinker of Postville, IA; brothers Gary & Cecilia Burbach of Marion, IA; Alan Burbach of St. Peters, MO; Francis & Colleen Burbach of Myrtle Beach, SC; and sisters-in-law, Patty Burbach of Parkston, SD; Mary Burbach of Marion, IA and Sally Hochstein of Wayne, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Russ Michael, granddaughter Megan Shepherd, brothers James and Kenny Burbach, sister and brother-in-law Alice & Clovis Weinandt, and sister-in-law, Pam Burbach.
