Dr. Arthur W. Schulze age 83, formerly of Yankton, passed away peacefully on Christmas morning, 2020 in Reno, Nevada.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on September 4, 2023, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton, South Dakota, with Reverend Thi Pham officiating. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton, South Dakota. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation service in Yankton. Art was born in New York City on July 19, 1937, and grew up in the borough of Queens. He graduated high school at the age of 16 and received his PhD in chemistry from the University of Colorado at age 21. He began his teaching career as a chemistry professor at Wayne State College where he met his future wife, Patricia Burney. Art and Pat moved to Yankton in 1968 where he became the chemistry professor at Yankton College. Art and Pat raised four kids and made their home in Yankton for 50 years.
Art was a scientist, a teacher, and an aficionado of classical music. He played the piano, violin, and clarinet, and enjoyed composing music. He eagerly looked forward to the annual six-week summer camping trip with his family, exploring the mountains of the West. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. After the passing of his wife, Art moved to Reno, Nevada to be with family.
