Douglas G. Blachnik, age 79, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Monday, January 28, 2019.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota. Burial will be at a later date in the Bon Homme Cemetery in Springfield, South Dakota.
Douglas Gene Blachnik was born July 17, 1939 in Missoula, Montana to Alois and Irene (Harrison) Blachnik. His family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where he attended school until the family moved to Yankton, South Dakota, where Douglas finished his education. He joined the National Guard and served from 1956 until 1964. He married Evelyn Cap and worked at Johnson Bakery which later became Van Demere Bakery. He married Cinthia Moruskia in 1972. He moved to California in the late 70’s and moved back to South Dakota in 2000. He enjoyed working on cars, motorcycles, traveling and gambling, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his two sisters: Beverly Lansdowne and Jenny Hanisch; four nephews: Brian Lansdowne, Hal Lansdowne, Gene Lansdowne and Thomas Melling; and three nieces: Stephanie Dolezal, Amanda Nekuda and Natalie Hanisch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a set of twins that died at birth and a brother who was stillborn.
