Doreen Emily Giggee

Doreen Emily Giggee, age 94, of Yankton, South Dakota died Friday, September 6, 2019 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Levi Willms officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home. Pallbearers are: Tim Giggee, Rory Smith, Randy Smith, John Giggee, Brian Giggee, Kevin Giggee, Chris Sparby and David Sparby. Honorary pallbearers are: Michelle Steward, Melissa Kistler, Beth Sparby and Troy Giggee. Doreen Emily Giggee was born March 9, 1925, in Yankton, South Dakota to Emil and Lillian (Hladky) Cwach. She grew up in Yankton and graduated from Yankton High School. She married Arthur Giggee on January 15, 1946, after he returned from the war, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton. They lived on a farm near Yankton where Doreen took great pride in raising her family as well as helping Art on the farm. They moved to their current home near Yankton in 1981. Doreen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton. She was a quiet, kind, organized and family oriented woman who always put others first. She would make all of the meals for the farmhands when they were on the farm and enjoyed gardening, canning, crossword puzzles, and was always up for a mean game of Svic or scrabble. Her family was always the most important thing in her life and she loved spending time with them. Survivors include her five children: Tom (Linda) Giggee of Gillette, Wyoming; Linda Smith of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Michael (Pam) Giggee of Mission Hill, South Dakota; Jim (Patty) Giggee of Rapid City, South Dakota and Janice (Scott) Harris of Rapid City; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Lillian Merkwan of Yankton; Florence Meehl of Denver, Colorado; and Frances (Marvin) Meier of Pleasanton, California; brother, Sonny (Marlin) Cwach of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Art on April 23, 2016; three brothers and three sisters.
