Dixie Conner, age 88, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Canton, South Dakota.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Yankton with Reverend Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton.
Dixie Conner was born November 10, 1929, in Nowata, Oklahoma to Charles and Hazel (Workman) Freeman. She attended country school from 1st through the 8th grade with the same teacher, and graduated from Nowata High School in 1946 at the age of 16. She then worked for Phillips Oil Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma for several years. Dixie attended Northeastern A&M in Miami, Oklahoma and married Argyll Conner on May 1, 1948 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They moved to Camp Pendleton, California where Argyll was stationed, moved back to Oklahoma, then lived in several Midwest cities before finally settling in Yankton in 1966. Dixie worked at the Human Services Center in the accounting department until her retirement in 1992.
Dixie had a strong but quiet faith and was member of First United Methodist Church in Yankton. She enjoyed baking, gardening, playing scrabble but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family. Dixie loved her family more than anything and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren. She was a strong, hard working woman who always put the needs of others before her own. She lived life to the fullest and made the most of the time she was given.
Survivors include her three children: Colin (Jeanne) Conner of Canton, South Dakota; Becky Kirchen of Tea, South Dakota; Connie Regalado of Yankton, South Dakota; five grandchildren: Bryan (Becca) Conner, Rachel Conner, Evan “Kelly” Kirchen, Rebecca Pearman and Rosa Regalado; two great grandchildren; two sisters: Peggy White and Beverly LeBlanc as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Argyll; two brothers, John and Charles Freeman and three sisters: Louise Brown, Phyllis Utter, and Delores Parrish.
