Delores Margaret Nelson, age 89, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.

Funeral services are 10:30 AM, on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church in Yankton with Reverend Errin Mulberry officiating.  Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery.  Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.  Memorials may be made to Friends of the Yankton Community Library to help provide programs and services for the library at 515 Walnut Street, Yankton, South Dakota 57078.

Pallbearers are John Lillevold, Takoma Brown, Mathew Shepherd, Charles Wollman, Joseph Novak, and Russell Gall.

Delores was born December 25, 1933 in Lesterville, South Dakota to Emil and Johanna (Auch) Gall.  She was baptized on February 25, 1934 at Petersburg Congregational Church in rural Scotland, South Dakota. Delores attended North Star Country School and graduated from Scotland High School.  She then worked at the Pioneer Press at Yankton College as bookkeeper from 1953 to 1955.  Later, Delores worked as a bookkeeper for Don Gilday CPA and Wohlenberg Ritzman CPA.

Delores married the love of her life, Luverne Christian Nelson on November 6, 1955.  They lived all their life on the farm north of Yankton and were blessed with a wonderful family.  Throughout the years, Delores also volunteered as the Treasurer for the Yankton Arts Association, the Church Women United, was a Sunday School Teacher, and volunteered at the Yankton City Library for over 30 years.  She enjoyed traveling in her retirement years.  Delores was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church.  She loved the Lord and loved her family above all else.

Delores is survived by four children: Chris (Patricia) Nelson of Yankton; Deanna (James) Shepherd of Waldport, Oregon; Teresa Nelson (Richard Wordeman) of Creswell, Oregon; and Mark (Lisa) Nelson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; six grandchildren: Shannon (John) Lillevold, Jacqueline (Tacoma) Brown, Matthew (Hannah) Shepherd, Brianna, Jessie, and Alyssa Wordeman; two step grandchildren: Jeff (Lisa) Wordeman and Kylee (Owen) Couroyer; eight great grandchildren; two brothers: Marvin Gall of Lake Andes, South Dakota and Emil Gall of Columbia, South Carolina; two sisters: Eileen McIntyre of Las Vegas, Nevada and Marjorie Novak of Mitchell, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luverne; grandson, Garret Nelson; five brothers: Ray, Richard, John, Aldon, and Clifford Gall; sister, Olive Wollman; and several nieces and nephews.
