Dean Edward Svatos, age 57, of Yankton, South Dakota and formerly of Lake Andes, South Dakota, died on Friday, March 16, 2018 at his home in Yankton.
Memorial service will be 2:00 PM on Friday, March 23, 2018 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Lake Andes, South Dakota with Reverend Cathal Gallagher officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton, South Dakota.
Pallbearers are: Danny Slaba, Dennis Hubers, Doug Svatos, Josh Svatos, and Ryan Svatos. Honorary pallbearers are: FMH Adjusters, Josh Kaczor, Eric Tycz, Darwin Miller, Dan Sudbeck, Jeremy Kjose and Gary Stickland.
Dean Edward Svatos was born to Dale and Joyce (Brooks) Svatos on February 24th 1961 in Platte, South Dakota the 3rd of four children. He passed away March 16, 2018 at home surrounded by family having attained the age of 57 years and 20 days. He married Kathy (Hatwan) Svatos on April 5th, 1986. To this union 4 children were born: Logan, Riley, Dale, and Darby. He farmed the family farm with his brother, Danny, at the age of 15. Dean also worked at the Lake Andes Health Center as a maintenance man, The Harford as a crop adjuster and field rep., and Farmers Mutual Hail as a field manager and sales rep. He also served on the Plain Center township board as a supervisor for 32 years and on the board of the Andes State Bank.
His passions in life were his wife and children, friends, hunting, fishing, and farming. He loved gardening, canning, and sharing the produce and canned goods with family and friends. Even up until his last days he enjoyed watching the geese and ducks and going for rides by the river to see if anyone was ice fishing.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father to his wife and children and a loving brother to his siblings: Dan (Martha) Svatos of Lake Andes, Kay Ann (Dennis) Hubers of Harris, South Dakota; and Doug (Tami) Svatos of Claremont, South Dakota and a wonderful uncle and great uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Dean was a devoted grandfather to Teanna, Devon, Kaydance, and Mitchel.
Dean leaves to mourn his wife Kathy of Yankton; sons Logan of Watertown, South Dakota; Dale of Mitchell, South Dakota; and Darby of Parkston, South Dakota; Tristan Scott of Mitchell, Chris (Kris) Rutledge of Yankton; daughters Riley (Luke) Cardona of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Bethany Gorter of Mitchell.
Dean was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents, Joyce and Dale Svatos; mother and father in law, Roland and Ann Hatwan; special Aunt and Uncle, Dorothy and Cliff Horner; and Special Buddy Kye Dog.
