David was born in Yankton, South Dakota on October 13, 1942, to Reverend O.L. Levorson and Agnes Satrum Levorson of Hartington, Nebraska. His father was the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington. David graduated from Hartington High School and Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and went on to earn a master’s degree at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. Over the years he taught and coached in Astoria, SD, Hartington, NE and was a Guidance Counselor for 25 years in Crete, Nebraska until his retirement in 2000.
David was a truly special man with seemingly unlimited patience and kindness. He loved his family deeply, maintained many close friendships and was a man of faith. David loved sports and was so happy sitting in the stands cheering on Mike and John and most recently his treasured grandsons. David enjoyed playing golf with friends, hosting spur of the moment gatherings, cracking a joke and his frequent visits to Hartington. Music of all types was an important part of David’s life. He was extremely proud of his Norwegian heritage and was an avid fan of Augustana University, University of Nebraska sports and the Minnesota Vikings.
David’s final years were spent dealing with the devastating progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Through it all, however, his kind and loving spirit brightly shined. We rejoice in his salvation and restoration in Heaven.
David is survived by his wife, Laurie; his son, John; his step-son, Mike Rodenbough and wife, April; his two grandsons, Finley and Kai Rodenbough; his sister, Ann Kieffer and brother-in-law, Bill Brown of Atlanta; two nephews, Dan Kieffer of Pennsylvania and Doug Kieffer of California and one niece, Stanna McDougal of California.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John and a nephew, Jay.
