Daryl Louis Hochstein, age 79 of St. Helena, Nebraska died surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at his residence after battling cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church in St. Helena with the Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in rural St. Helena. Visitation will be on Thursday, at church, from 4-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Dustin Hochstein, Dawn Hochstein, Adam Wiebold, Ashley Leise, Derrick Leise, Alex Wiebold, Carrie Wiebold, Ethan Hochstein, Nicole Hochstein, Madison Hochstein and Riley Hochstein. Daryl was born on April 25, 1938 in Hartington, Nebraska to Victor Hugo and Lucina Evelyn (Wolff) Hochstein. He grew up in the Wynot, Nebraska area and attended District 13 country school. Daryl graduated from Wynot High School in 1956. Daryl married Agnes Feilmeier on June 16, 1959 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. They made their home just south of St. Helena for 10 years before moving into St. Helena in 1969. Daryl co-owned Daryl and Ray’s Feed Store in Wynot for several years. For the next 28 years he drove a fuel tank wagon and owned Daryl’s oil company. After he sold Daryl’s Oil Company he spent the next 8 years working for Hydraulic Component in Hartington until he retired in 2003. Daryl was currently working for the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington and the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton beginning in 2005. Daryl made many friends through his lifetime. Daryl and Aggie were always on the go through their almost 59 years of marriage. They were incredibly supportive of their kids, grandkids and great grandkids, attending all of their activities and events. He was looking forward to being the best man for his son, Tom’s, upcoming marriage to Lacy but will be there in spirit. Daryl was an active member of his community including coaching baseball, driving the Wynot Public School bus for 25 years, member of the Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church and served on the parish council. He was a member of the St. Helena Social Club and was a former member of the St. Helena Town Board and was on the board of the Wynot Rural Fire District. Daryl is survived by his wife, Aggie Hochstein of St. Helena; 4 children, Bob and Stephanie Hochstein of Sabetha , KS; Denise Morrow and Don Hagge of Yankton; Sheri and Doug Moser of Crofton, NE; Tom Hochstein and Lacy Barnett of Chatham, IL; 9 grandchildren, Dustin Hochstein, Dawn Hochstein, Adam Wiebold, Ashley and Derrick Leise, Alex and Carrie Wiebold, Ethan Hochstein, Nicole Hochstein, Madison Hochstein and Riley Hochstein, 5 step grandchildren, 6.5 great grandchildren and a sister, Alice Beyeler of Jefferson City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Bev Jones, Eva Bruening, & Marion Bruening; brothers in law; Frederick Bruening, Reynold Promes, Glen Beyeler & Daryl Jones and a son-in-law, Tim Morrow.
