Crofton

Daniel Schroeder, age 77, of Crofton, Nebraska, died Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee, Nebraska, with Reverend Jim Keiter officiating. There will be a lunch immediately following the Mass, then burial will be in Mission Hill Cemetery in Mission Hill, South Dakota, with military honors provided by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Tuesday at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, South Dakota.

Daniel Schroeder was born April 13, 1947, on the farm in Menominee, Nebraska, to Henry Jr. and Elizabeth (Feldhacker) Schroeder. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Menominee. After school he worked on the farm and then took a job with Heine Feed Lots which he continued for 20 years. He married Joan Iverson on August 14, 1986 in Yankton, South Dakota. Daniel then started his own business, called Diamond Six, and continued buying and selling scrap metal for 35 years.

Daniel was an upbeat, positive man who always stood by his word and whistled everywhere he went. He was always on the move and enjoyed traveling with his wife to California and most recently with his granddaughter, Tristin to Las Vegas. He enjoyed family trips to the casino, playing slot machines and was always up for an adventure. He videotaped everything, encouraging bad behavior along the way so he could get it on camera. He would help anyone in need, no matter what, even if it was detrimental to himself.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Schroeder of Crofton, Nebraska; two children: Dawn (Mark) Jongeling of Babcock Ranch, Florida and Travis Schroeder of St. Cloud, Minnesota; three step-children: Kim Cameron of Bloomfield, Nebraska; Ronald (Heather Barron) Galvan III of Goodyear, Arizona and Carrie (Jason) Harris of Yankton; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters: Bernadette (Edward) Lange of Hartington, Nebraska; Alice Klug of St. Helena, Nebraska; and Dorothy (Arlynn) Schmidt of Elk Point, South Dakota; three brothers: James (Renee) Schroeder of Yankton; Allen (Cindy) Schroeder of Fordyce, Nebraska; and David (Sally) Schroeder of Irene, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Joseph, Charles and Leander Schroeder; three sisters: Kathy Pinkleman, Marjorie Kathol and Henrietta Sudbeck.
