Daniel I. Bruening

Daniel Ignatius Bruening, age 83 of St. Helena, Nebraska, died on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 10:30 am at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church in St. Helena with Rev. Andy Phan officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in St. Helena. The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is assisting with the arrangements. Honorary Pallbearers will be Allen Kluthe, Dick Hochstein, Jerome Stratman, Mike Hans, Mark Hans, Claude Pinkelman, Matt Weinandt, Randy Bruening, Brian Hochstein, Loren Bender, Robert Bender, David Bruening, Lonnie Hegge and Lester Hegge Active Pallbearers will be Dennis Bruening, Michael Bruening, Ken Bruening, Joe Bruening, Ed Bruening and Steve Bruening. Daniel was born on April 11, 1936 at home in rural St. Helena to Ignatius Carl and Helen Barbara (Schnieder) Bruening. He attended District 4 School and lived and farmed his whole life on the family homestead. He also did custom combining and bailing for a number of years. Daniel was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Helena. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. Daniel is survived by 2 brothers and 6 sisters, Charleen Becker of Crystal Lake, MN; Germaine Becker of Hartington, Nebraska; Betty and Willie Lund of Blair, NE; Kathleen Tideman of Hastings, NE; Marion Haberman of Springfield, Ne; Karen and Dean Meyer of Norfolk, NE; Gayle and Jan Bruening of Madison, MS; Clayton and Lynette Bruening of Yankton, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ethel Rothluebber and brothers-in-law, Florenz “Molly” Becker, Don Becker, Tom Tideman and Larry Haberman.
