Dana Scott Janes was born September 17, 1960 in Aberdeen, SD to Harvey and Alice “Jean” (Cotman) Janes. He grew up in Aberdeen and lived in Yankton for the past 20 years. He walked daily and visited with people in Yankton. Dana was energetic and enjoyed doing yard work, shoveling snow or doing odd jobs to help others. In 2006, he received a heroes award from his care club for saving the life of a friend whose clothes had accidentally caught on fire. He had a passion for animals and kept aquariums of fish and pet turtles. Dana liked doing errands for others and would often have a gift for a friend or family member. His charming and witty conversations will be remembered by many who enjoyed a laugh with him or bartered with him over a purchase he was making. Dana loved to fish. He had many stories about catching sunfish or soft shell turtles and giving other fishermen walleyes that he caught.
Dana is survived by three siblings: Diane (Terry) Zontek of Tucson, AZ, Don (Terry) Janes of Dent, Minnesota and Doug Janes of Hot Springs, South Dakota.
Dana was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Alice “Jean” Janes.
