The love of my life has passed on. He was Dale Hacecky, born December 9, 1935 in Yankton, South Dakota to hard-working, farm orientated parents, Charles and Clara (Schempp) Hacecky. My husband grew up in Yankton and developed a love of flying from his older brother, Floyd. One Sunday when Dale was 12 years old, Floyd and his wife, Donna were in church and Dale started Floyd’s plane and temporarily soloed the plane in the pasture. Needless to say, he was grounded for the next 15 years. After Yankton High School, Dale joined the United States Air Force and served primarily in Florida, Guam and South Korea. After his discharge, he returned to Yankton where he started Hacecky Steel Construction which he ran for many years, specializing mostly in farm buildings, grain bins and elevator legs. During this time, he met and married me, Mary Stewart, on March 26, 1966. We were eventually blessed with three wonderful sons. Dale and I spent many Sunday mornings flying to fly-in breakfasts around the state with our friends. Dale was challenged early in his life with health issues, having his first heart attack at age 35 and his first open-heart surgery at age 39. That ended his flying pastime, however, we spent many hours fishing on the Missouri River. He also enjoyed cooking and taking food to people who enjoyed it. He became known as “The Pizza Man”.
Dale is survived by me, Mary, his wife of 53 years; three sons: Mike Hacecky (Cheryl Koch), Brett (Tanya) Hacecky and Brad Hacecky; grandchildren, Harlie and Simon Hacecky, all of Yankton. How blessed are we to have all our children here in Yankton with us! Also surviving are two sisters: Joyce (Lee) Plank of Yankton and Dorothy Prickett of Scotland, SD; two sisters-in-law: Donna Hacecky McCarville of Mountain Home, AR and Judy Stewart of Scottsdale, AZ; plus many nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Chet and Fran Stewart; brother, Floyd Hacecky; and two brothers-in-law: Virgil Prickett and Bob Stewart.
Big D. We all love you. Get the gin rummy cards ready, I’ll be joining you soon. Love, Mary.
