Charles Henry Promes

Charles Henry Promes age 79 of Aurora, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at CountryHouse Residence in Grand Island, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on July 12, 2021 at the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot, Nebraska with Rev. An Duy Phan officiating. Burial will be at Saint’s Philip & James Catholic Cemetery in St. James, Nebraska.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, NE. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles’ brothers and sons. Pallbearers are grandsons: Michael, TJ, Spencer, Garrett, Chad, Landry and Kollin. Charles ‘Chuck’ ‘Carly’ Henry Promes was born November 16, 1941 in St. James, Nebraska, to Frank and Erma (Noeker) Promes. He was baptized in the St. Philip and James Church on November 19, 1941 and graduated from Wynot High School, Wynot, Nebraska. On June 20, 1981 he married Sharon ‘Shari’ (Jacobsen) Rissler. Carly worked as a Maintenance Engineer and in the Beef Packing Industry.  He was an avid horseman and likely logged more miles on the back of horse than in the seat of a vehicle. Carly and Shari enjoyed their horse, goat, basset hound and occasional cow farm outside of Aurora, NE entertaining those who wanted riding lessons or to simply lean over a tailgate and talk a spell. Charles is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon ‘Shari’ Promes; 3 brothers: Tom (LuAnn) Promes of Seward, NE, Larry Promes of Crofton, NE, Mike Promes of Virginia, NE; 1 sister, Jeannie (Robert) Donner of Crofton, NE; 4 children: Jeff (Gina) Promes of Hillsboro, TX, Mark Promes of Sioux Falls, SD, Robin Miles of Hillsboro, TX and Brett (Nancy) Rissler of Frisco, TX; 9 grandchildren: Kelli (Chad) Reedy of Hillsboro, TX, Kenzie (Landry) Lee of Hillsboro, TX, Michael (Erin) Promes of Sioux Falls, SD, Lauren Promes of Minneapolis, MN, Spencer (Courtney) Promes of Harrisburg, SD, Taylor Promes of Sioux Falls, SD, TJ Miles of Hillsboro, TX, Shelby (Kollin) Miller of Merriam, KS and Garrett (Tara) Rissler of Bellevue, NE; 6 great grandchildren: Kaydence Reedy, Witten Lee, Maxwell Promes, Shay Promes, Desmond Rissler and Myra Rissler and many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Erma Promes. The family would prefer memorials on behalf of Charles sent to EPONA Horse Rescue (20100 SW 114^th St, Crete, NE 68333) in lieu of flowers.
