Charles A. Murphy, age 75, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home.
Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Charles was born November 3, 1942 in Mount Carmel, Illinois to Harold and Martha (Dardeen) Murphy. He graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, Indiana. Charles worked in the oil fields in Carmi, Illinois. On February 1, 1964, he married Carolyn Wright in Johnson, Indiana. After their marriage, they lived in Carmi and Charles worked for a body shop for a few years and then began his career in sales with Sears, Roebuck and Company. He became a manager and moved to Monmouth, Illinois, then Iowa Falls, Iowa and lastly to Yankton in 1977, where he currently resided. Charles continued to manage Sears until it closed. He opened Murph’s Appliance at that same location and added a second location in Vermillion, South Dakota in 1997. Charles was involved with Babe Ruth Baseball, Roger Haas Basketball Tournament and served as Yankton City Commissioner.
Charles is survived by his wife, Carolyn Murphy of Yankton; five children; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother, Robert Murphy of Bloomfield, Indiana; a niece and nephew; and his dog, Jake.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Glenda Murphy.
