Catherine “Carrie” (Schulze) Nelson, age 49, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Memorial Service will be 10:00 AM on June 30, 2018 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Larry Regynski officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service. Catherine “Carrie” (Schulze) Nelson was born November 20, 1968 in Yankton, South Dakota to Dr. Arthur and Patricia (Burney) Schulze. She grew up and attended school in Yankton and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State, Long Beach in 2002. She was married to John Nelson from 1998-2003. Carrie lived in Huntington Beach California until moving to Hawaii in 2003. She moved back to Yankton in 2016 to help care for her parents. Carrie will always be remembered for her great sense of humor, her vibrant personality, love of animals, and her passion for life. She was creative, excelling in both classical violin and art. With a keen musical ear, she was able to faultlessly reproduce music on piano, even though she had no formal piano training. She loved children, and spent her early years in California serving as a beloved nanny. After receiving her BA in Psychology, she spent her time working with troubled youth. She had a knack for creating close bonds with all she met and loved spending time with her friends. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her life partner, Jason Block of Yankton; her father, Dr. Arthur Schulze of Yankton; her two brothers, Joel (Jennifer) Kim of Honolulu, Hawaii and Jeff (Florence) Kim of Reno, Nevada; sister, Arian Schulze of Brooklyn, New York; many nieces and nephews and one great niece.
