Carol Jean (Diede) Ackerman

Carol Jean (Diede) Ackerman, age 86, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. A memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Dean Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Scotland, South Dakota. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Carol’s grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carol Jean (Diede) Ackerman was born July 7, 1932 to Adolph and Olga (Schubert) Diede.  She married Lamoyne Haugen and to this union 2 daughters were born, Sharon Louise and Barbara Jean. She then married Kenneth G. Ackerman. Kenneth adopted Sharon and Barbara and to this union 6 more children were added: Linda Kay, Kenneth Robert, Donald Ray, Lawrence Duane, Greg Allen and Jacquelyn Jo. Carol had various occupations over the years, including Mayfield Store and Carol's Café in Lesterville. She worked many years at Becton-Dickinson in Columbus, NE, until her retirement. Then she returned to Yankton. Carol had many hobbies including baking (mainly banana bread), sewing, feeding birds, emailing friends and family, and crocheting. Her latest passion was embroidering burp cloths for the Martinus Baby Bundle project. She is survived by her children: Sharon Bonrud, Barbara (Tom) Bruder, Linda (Daniel) Schenkel, Kenny Jr., Larry Ackerman, Greg Ackerman, and Jackie (Jon) Grosdidier; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Sylvia Melson; Brandon Bruder (Brooke Hershfeldt) (Reggie Bruder, Brynlee Bruder, RJ, Emma Hershfeldt); Brent Bruder; Amanda (Chris) Maddox (Ariel, Jeremy, Annabelle Maddox); Nicholas (Dena) Schenkel (Shayla, Alanna Boedecker, Desiree Schenkel); Sara (Brent) Bouzek (Beck, Baby boy Bouzek); Christy (Adam) Mord (Greyson, Baby girl Mord); Sheana Almendinger (Mckenzie Ackerman, Alexis Galusha, Kelcy, Koraleigh, Aliyah, Marisa Almendinger); Nichole Ackerman (Kimmberly, McKenzie Ackerman, Hayden Hefling); Christopher Ackerman (Bernadette Ackerman); Kelsey (Adam) Jurgens (Bellamy Jurgens); Jacob and Morgan Grosdidier; brothers: Bob (Malena) Diede, and Gary (Joyce) Diede; sisters: Shirley (Lester) Muehlbeier and Sandra (David) Winslow; sisters-in-law: June Diede and Grace Diede; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Ray Ackerman in 2004; brothers: Raymond and Donald Diede; and infant sister, Lois.
