Bruce M. Dzitko, age 61, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at his home.
A memorial service for Bruce will be held at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Military honors provided by the Ellsworth Air Force Base will follow the service at the funeral home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Bruce was born July 18, 1962 in Orlando, Florida to Charles and Hilda (Powell) Dzitko. After graduation from high school, he attended college and graduated with a degree in Geology. In January of 1981, Bruce enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his service he was stationed in Virginia, Korea, England, Saudi Arabia, Bosnia, Pakistan, Iraq and California. He was a combat photographer and loved flying, especially loved flying in helicopters. Bruce served in the Air Force for over 25 years and was honorably discharged in September of 2006. On December 24, 2005, Bruce married Molly Freng. They lived at Vandenberg Air Force in California until they moved to Yankton in 2013. Bruce loved concerts, skateboarding, surfing, camping, and boating. He enjoyed listening to music, especially rock music and it had to be loud. He enjoyed grilling and cooking for his family and friends. Bruce loved people, a good cigarette and a cold beverage. He loved to tell stories and could visit with anyone about anything. He enjoyed the company of his dogs which he had over the years.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Molly Dzitko of Yankton; two daughters, Rachel Dzitko of Sanford, North Carolina and Kelly Dzitko (Patrick Dixon) of Shepherd Air Force in Texas; one brother, David (Elka) Dzitko of Germany; and one nephew, Michael Dzitko.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Greg Dzitko.
