Beverly Faye Parkhurst

Beverly Faye Parkhurst, age 85, of Yankton, South Dakota, died on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Bierwagen officiating. After the funeral, her body will be donated to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in Vermillion. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Beverly was born March 9, 1933 in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Ferdinand and Alverna (Hall) Gutzman. She grew up on a farm in the Norfolk area and graduated from Norfolk High School. She then attended Norfolk Junior College, now known as Northeast Community College. On December 17, 1955, Beverly married Dale R. Parkhurst. After their marriage, they moved to Yankton and raised their two sons. Dale and Beverly were divorced in 1971. That same year, Beverly graduated from Mount Marty College with a degree in Art Education and Spanish. She moved to Scotland, SD where she taught Art and Spanish. A year later, she came back to Yankton and worked at Nacke Jewelers for several years and then Pied Piper Flowers for around 20 years. Beverly absolutely loved working with flowers and was known for her beautiful flower gardens at her home, winning yard of the month several times. She enjoyed art, doing mosaics and all different types of painting. Beverly also loved working with the Hispanic community and helping them translate at doctor’s appointments and other affairs. She was always ready and willing to help when needed. Beverly is survived by two sons: Craig Parkhurst of Armour, SD and Clark Parkhurst of Ogilvie, MN; two grandchildren: Iva (Jeremy) Bigge of Yankton and Ian Parkhurst of Sioux Falls; two great grandchildren: Avi and Knox Bigge; three brothers: Ralph (Alicia) Gutzman of Arizona, Dallas (Darlene) Gutzman of Pierce, NE and Robert Gutzman of Omaha, NE; and several nieces and nephews.
