Betty Rose (Walker) Link

Betty Rose Link, age 93, of Yankton, South Dakota and formerly of Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. According to Betty’s wishes, she will be cremated and no services will be held.  She will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk, Ohio at a later date.  Thanks to hospice and Avera Sister James Care Center for their kind support.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton. Betty was born September 12, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio to Edward and Mae (Miller) Meifert.  She had one older brother, Edward Jr.  Her mother later married David Sanford, who Betty considered her dad, along with step brothers, Edward, Elmer and Thomas.  Betty grew up in Norwalk, Ohio and graduated from Norwalk High School.  During high school, she worked at the local movie theater and also did sewing in a factory during World War II.  Betty then worked at the Norwalk Jr. High School cafeteria and also at the elementary school cafeteria in Greenwich, Ohio.  She was married to William L. Walker and they had four children together.  They later divorced, and she was married to Estel Link.  Betty moved to Yankton in 2018 with her daughter, Deborah.  Betty loved to travel and go to garage sales, thrift stores, and casinos. She was an excellent seamstress also loved to play rummy. Betty is survived by her four children: David (Marie) Walker of Fayetteville, NC, Deborah (Stephen) Smith of Yankton, Sherry Hopkins of Sevierville, TN, and Sandra Walker of Waterford, MI; five grandchildren: Boyd, Bonnie, DeDe, Tiffany, and Elizabeth; eight great grandchildren: Luke, Owen, Cole, Lily, Cora, Heather, Khloe, and Cheyenne; and one great-great granddaughter, Sophie. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, step father, both husbands, brother, three step brothers, and also a niece, great niece, great nephew, numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
