Betty L. Lauer, age 91 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Park View Haven Nursing Home in Coleridge, Nebraska
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael’s cemetery in Hartington. Visitation will be on Tuesday, at church, from 5-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be Nick Lauer, Lucas Lauer, Art Bottolfsen, John Kleinschmit, Dirk Dailey, and Shaun Ruhland. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Betty Lou was born on November 11, 1932 in Hartington to Arthur Harvey and Daisy Marie (Mathers) Bottolfsen. She grew up around the Wynot and Obert, Nebraska areas and attended church at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wynot. Betty graduated from Hartington Public High School and then she attended Wayne State College and received her Elementary Education degree. Betty taught in several northeast Nebraska rural schools. Betty married Edmund “Bud” William Lauer on May 19, 1954 in Hartington. While she was raising her three children, Bill, Bob, and Becky, she stayed at home. She did work for Gurney’s Seed and Nursery in Yankton, SD part-time before working at the Cedar County Courthouse in the Treasurer’s office with Roger Schwartz for 20 years. Betty then ran the Recycling Center for 20 years in Hartington until she was 85 years old. Betty moved to Park View Haven Nursing Home in March of 2023.
Betty was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, its Ladies Guild and the Christian Mothers. She had an hour of adoration for many years at church, she loved to crochet, play cards and have her coffee. Betty collected milk glass and made the 1st Communion crosses for many years.
Betty is survived by her twin sons, Bill (Donna) Lauer of Hartington, Bob (Sylvia) Lauer of Hartington; a daughter Becky (Luis) Escobar of Manhattan, NY; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three siblings Deana (Dick) Rimel of Lincoln, Judy (Jim) Kvols of Laurel, Art (Cheryl) Bottolfsen of Crofton; a brother-in-law Dan Sutton of Shelton, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents Art and Daisy Bottolfsen, husband Edmund “Bud” Lauer on September 22, 1992; two sisters Janet Sutton and Nancy (Donovan) Pick.
