Betty Herrboldt was born November 5, 1933, in Wagner, South Dakota, to Lloyd and Frances (Lanning) Cressy. She grew up in Yankton, South Dakota, and after raising her family, went on to pursue some personal dreams. She received her Associates Degree in Business from the University of South Dakota at Springfield. She owned and managed Carefree Homes for 10 years until moving to California where she became a sales consultant for US Homes, where she excelled, and received seven annual awards for high volume sales. After eight years with the company, Betty retired to her beloved hometown, Yankton in 1996.
Betty was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Yankton, where she was a member of the funeral team and enjoyed Pastor Kwen’s bible studies. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and The Center in Yankton. She loved to read, garden, decorate cakes and dance, especially square dancing. She also loved to play board games and cards where her family learned that it was almost impossible to beat her at any of them. Betty shared her talent for crocheting when she made more than 80 newborn sweater and cap sets as part of a mission project for the church.
Betty’s family would like to express their deep gratitude for the staff at Majestic Bluffs, the Palliative Care nurse Debbie Deuschle who cared for her for four years with respect and dignity giving her family a sense of peace, and the hospice care team who gave her extra care and ensured a pain-free passing.
In Betty’s own words, “When I look back on my life, I know that I have left this world a better place for having been here. That being said, of course, my four wonderful kids. They are my greatest accomplishment and of what I am most proud.”
Survivors include her four children: Russ (Durinda) Biesman of St. George, Utah; Vicki (Bob) Rye of Reno, Nevada; Richard (Colette) Biesman of Abilene, Texas; and Randall (Helen) Biesman of St. Charles, Missouri; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Raye Cressy; sister, Dorrie Lefler; and brother-in-law, Frank Lefler.
