Bernice Cox, age 48, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Friday, September 27, 2019 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral services are 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with Reverend Dani Jo Bierwagen officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 1 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
Bernice was born December 26, 1970 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to George and Mickey (Huber) Block. She grew up in Redfield, South Dakota where she graduated from high school in 1989. Bernice then earned an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and later in life, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. In 1994, Bernice started working for Walmart in Aberdeen as a Pharmacy Technician. In 1996, she was married to Albert Cox and they were together for several years. Bernice transferred to the Pharmacy Department at Walmart in Yankton in the early 2000’s. She loved working in her yard and caring for her lawn, garden and flowers. She loved the company of her many dogs. Bernice also loved Halloween and could often be found wearing Halloween socks anytime of the year. She was a strong, family oriented mother who adored her grandchildren. She always found the positive in any situation and didn’t allow any difficulty in life to keep her down.
Bernice is survived by three children: Hope Block of Groton, SD, Anton Block of Yankton and Beth Block of Yankton; five grandchildren: Donavan, Rosalyn, Lillian, Bailey and Ellie; and a sister, Michelle Severson of Clark, SD.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Darin Block.
