Bernal H. Huber

Bernal H. Huber, age 88, of Mission Hill, South Dakota, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Avera Sr. James Care Center in Yankton, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM on Monday, July 16, 2018, at United Church of Christ-Congregational in Yankton with Reverend Elaine Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton with military honors provided by Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post 791 in Yankton and the Rudolph-Christensen Post No. 237 in Gayville, South Dakota. Visitation is from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a prayer service at 4:00 PM. Pallbearers are Greg Bak, Tyler Hoxeng, Nicholas Huber, Trevor Huber, Bill Huether and Rick Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Brittney Huber, Gary Smith, and Jon Willert. It was Bernal’s wishes to have his tractor lead him to the cemetery, which will be driven by Gary Smith. Bernal H. Huber was born October 17, 1929, in Yankton County to Herbert and Ethel (Dunham) Huber. He grew up on the farm and attended school in the Mission Hill area. He worked on the farm until enlisting in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the war he returned to the farm and on May 26, 1956, he married Pearl Rempfer in the Saron Reformed Church in rural Menno, South Dakota. They moved to their farm place near Mission Hill after their marriage, where Bernal continued to farm the rest of his life. Bernal was a member of the UCC Church in Mission Hill until it closed and then became a member of the UCC Church in Yankton. He was also a member of the Gayville American Legion, the Moose Lodge, the Yankton Elks Club and a lifetime member of the Yankton VFW. He enjoyed playing pool, playing cards, traveling, boating on the river, camping, and dancing, but he especially loved farming and his family. Survivors include his two children: Renee (Greg) Bak of Mission Hill and Wayne (Julie) Huber of Gayville; three grandchildren: Nicholas, Brittney, and Trevor; great granddaughter, Bryten and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pearl on February 5, 2013; brother, Lloyd Huber and two sisters, Dureen Buchanan and Thelma Van Epps.
