Arthur F. Kathol

Arthur Francis Kathol, age 86 of Bow Valley, Nebraska died unexpectedly in Bow Valley on Monday, May 21, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 10:30 am at the Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church in Bow Valley with Rev Eric Olsen officiating. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Bow Valley. Visitation will be in Bow Valley on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the church. Peter & Paul church. The Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Todd Kathol, Bradley Kathol, Mark Kathol, Tomas Kathol, Kurtis Kathol, Jacob Mackey, Brian Hodges, Matthew Hodges and Spencer Carl. Honorary Pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Audrey (Mark) Klingele, Karen Carl, Wendy Mackey, Jennifer Kathol, and Renee Carl. Art was born in Bow Valley on May 5, 1932 to John H. and Mary Wilhelmina (Wieseler) Kathol. He graduated from the 8th grade in May of 1945 and began working with his father in the appliance business. Art married Maureen Sudbeck on October 26, 1954 in Bow Valley. He continued to work with his father and eventually became his partner forming John and Art Kathol Appliance. In June of 1969 it became Art Kathol Appliance. Art retired in 1992 but continued to help his son, Don, part -time until 2012. Art was an active member of the Holy Family (Sts. Peter & Paul) Catholic Church and was a former council member. He was the chairman of the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery Committee for many years. Art was very active doing volunteer work for his community and church. He enjoyed riding his Gold Wing motorcycle and visiting with his friends. Most of all spending time with his family was very important. Art is survived by his wife, Maureen of Bow Valley, 5 children, Linda (David) Carl of Shawnee, KS; Lori (Charles) Mackey of Yankton, SD; Paula (Michael) Hodges of Lincoln, NE; Donavin (Joyce) Kathol of Bow Valley; Julie (Scott) Childers of Lincoln, NE; 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Delores (Norman) Sudbeck of Hartington and Mary Ann (Joseph) Stastny of Lennox, SD. He was preceded in death by 5 children, Mary, Karl, Dale, Dean, John and a sister, Christine Kruse Kaberna.
