Arlene Kay Steffen age 69 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton with the Rev. An Duy Phan officiating. Burial will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Crofton. Visitation will be on Sunday, at church, from 3-5:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, at church, one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton.
Pallbearers will be Abigail Steffen, Preston Steffen, William Steffen, Anthony Steffen, Carter Steffen, and Terry Thunker. Honorary pallbearers will be Arlene’s grandchildren.
Arlene Kay was born on December 12, 1953 in Sutherland, Nebraska to Robert William and Lula Marie (Knoles) Kennicutt. She grew up in the Curtis, Nebraska area and graduated from Medicine Valley High School in 1972. She went to the Grand Island School of Business and then started working for an insurance adjuster in North Platte, NE. She married Edward Walter Steffen on November 9, 1974 in Curtis, NE. They moved to McCook, Nebraska where they lived for three years before moving to Crofton in 1977. Arlene and Ed raised four children Doug, Craig, Steve, and Lisa. Throughout the years Arlene worked at Crofton Farm Supply as a bookkeeper, Crofton Schools as head cook, Yankton Medical Clinic in records, and Yankton Human Services Center as a transcriptionist. After her retirement in 2020 she worked for the City of Crofton as a clerk.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where she served as a lector, EMHC and was active in Ladies Guild and Christian Mothers. She taught CCD for many years and continued to volunteer her time by making rosaries with the students. Arlene enjoyed baking, quilting, sewing, gardening and canning. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and sharing her many talents with them.
Arlene is survived by her husband Ed of Crofton; her four children Doug (Traci) Steffen of Crofton, Craig (Crystal) Steffen of Bloomfield, Steve (Stephanie) Steffen of Gretna, and Lisa (Andrew) Case of Omaha; 15 grandchildren; mother Lula Kennicutt of Paxton, NE; two brothers Melvin (Paula) Kennicutt of Arapahoe, NE, Ron Kennicutt of Maywood, NE.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert Kennicutt.
