Ardis M. Sayler

Ardis M. Sayler, age 87, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Wakonda Heritage Manor in Wakonda, South Dakota. Funeral services are 11:00 AM, on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yankton with Reverend Steve Wiespfennig officiating.  Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton.  Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton. Pallbearers are her grandchildren: Roger Jr., Bob, Brice, Josie, Dustin and Kristina Sayler. Ardis was born February 13, 1930 in Clay County, South Dakota to Melvin and Edna (Thorson) Diltz.  She grew up in Volin, South Dakota, was confirmed on April 2, 1944 at Volin Lutheran Church, and graduated from Volin High School in 1948.  Ardis then worked at the Yankton County Courthouse in the Treasurer’s Office.  She married Marvin Sayler in November 1951 in Volin.  After their marriage, they farmed near Lesterville, South Dakota until 1978 when they moved to Yankton.  Ardis then worked for Gurney’s Seed and Nursery, Dale Electronics and also cleaned many office buildings.  She loved to work in her garden and was a member of the Yankton Garden Club.  She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served on several committees.  Ardis was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed playing pinochle and taught herself to play the piano.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Ardis is survived by her son, Roger Sr. (Judy) Sayler of Wakonda, SD; daughter-in-law, Freida Sayler of Yankton; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; one brother, Neal (Elizabeth) Diltz of Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces and nephews. Ardis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marvin in 2003; son, Larry Sayler; sister, Leona Smith; and niece, Marlene Proft.
