Ann (Keating) Lemon, age 91, of Yankton, South Dakota died on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
A Latin Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Steven Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a rosary at 6:45 PM and a Vigil service at 7:00 PM led by Reverend Larry Regynski.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Brian Lemon, Andy Barkley, Matt McKenna, Alan Lemon, Jonathan Lemon, and Nick Bowden. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild.
Ann (Keating) Lemon was born March 14, 1927 in Yankton, South Dakota, to John L. and Patricia (Hart) Keating. She graduated 8th grade from Sacred Heart Catholic School and then graduated from Mount Marty High School in 1945. She attended two years at the University of Iowa, where she met her future husband, Elgin Lemon Jr. They were married June 20, 1947, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. After their marriage they lived one year in Philadelphia and one year in Sioux Falls before settling in Yankton.
Ann loved her Catholic faith, her family and fighting for the unborn. In addition to giving pro-life educational programs, she organized the Holy Innocents Vigil for Life for over 30 years. She also sponsored a weekly pro-life quotation in the Yankton County Observer.
Ann played the piano by ear from an early age. Mrs. S.G. Donaldson was her long time teacher. She presented a solo piano recital as a high school senior and played the piano for the high school swing band. During college she had a daily radio program on WSUI, the station owned by the University of Iowa. She played the organ for the funeral choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. She also helped her son, Mike, in the family insurance business for 25 years.
Survivors include her ten children: Deborah Lemon of Yankton; Mike (Cheryl) Lemon of Tyndall, South Dakota; Lee (Ron) Barkley of Yankton; K.C. Lemon of Yankton; Mollie (d. Rick) McKenna of Saratoga, California; John (Colleen) Lemon of Campbell, California; Brendan Lemon of New York City; Megan Lemon of Yankton; David Lemon and special friend Diane Hobza of Omaha, Nebraska; and Becky (Mike) DeBolt of Omaha; 27 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Pecky (Larry) Kelly of Denton, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elgin; three grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters.
