Alberta Jean was born on December 20, 1930 in Oakland, Nebraska to Herman and Gladys (Magnusen) Dorfmeyer. Alberta graduated from High School in Hooper, NE. She married Phillip Edward Hines on August 18, 1948 in Fremont, Nebraska. She and Phillip lived their entire married life in Coleridge where they farmed. Alberta spent the past three years living with her daughter Jane in Sidney, NE.

Alberta was a farmer and dedicated farmers wife. When you ask friends and family what they will remember most about Alberta - it would be that she loved watching her crops grow - both in ground and humans. Her children would like to believe they were her best crop. She tended to everyone with her strong faith. She mastered a life as a wife and mother filled with gardening, canning, quilting, sewing, beating everyone she played Scrabble with- well almost all the time. Quietly the most competitive person you could ever meet. The ability to recall everyone and special dates for everyone. Sharp witted and an incredible sense of humor. She championed the best cinnamon rolls and apple pie. Alberta produced quilts and afghans for everyone. We will remember her kindness, her smile, her physical resilience and the moments she gave us all. Her journey is not yet finished- we believe she has weaved golden threads in our hearts to have faith, planted seeds to be productive -strong and determined with joy to go forward in our lives with peace in our hearts. Her ability to make a place in all our lives is everlasting.

Alberta is survived by her five children - Leslie (Gayle) Hines of Des Moines, Iowa, Gwendolyn (Jorge) Seba of Cibolo, TX, Rowena Johnson and Russell Piippo of Waco, TX, Jane (Chris) Schaaf of Sidney, Thomas (Grace) Hines of Prescot, AZ; sister Janet Presley and sister-in-law Nancy Kusel; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews - all whom Alberta cherished and adored.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Gladys Dorfmeyer; husband Phillip Hines on 8/23/1995 at age of 72 years; Alberta’s son Stephen Hines and grandson Karl Johnson; sons-in-law Thomas Karlovetz and Samuel Johnson; parents-in-law William and Mary Hines; sister and her husband Marlene and Keith Schermerhorn , sisters-in-law and husbands Dorothy and Marvin Hartung, Wilma and Charlie Paulson , and Marion and Don Molden; brother-in-law Joseph and wife Aletha Hines; Don Presley and Paul Hines.
