Delwin C. Walter Sr. age 56 of Crofton, Nebraska died on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Discovery Church in Yankton, SD with the Rev. Jon Cooke officiating. Burial will be at Beaver View Cemetery in Crofton following a luncheon. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Crofton. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, at church, one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Roger Lange, Gary Arens, Trevor Arens, Todd Taggart, Mike Schroeder, and Matt Schroeder. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale and Gary Guenther.
Delwin C. Walter was born on December 17, 1959 in Pierre, SD to Delmar J. and Patty Ann (Taggart) Walter. He grew up in Crofton and graduated from Crofton High School in 1978. He went to Community College in Sheldon, Iowa for an Associate's Degree while playing football. He then went to UNL where he played football for the Huskers while earning a Bachelor's degree. He married Robin G. Lottritz on May 19, 1984 in Omaha, Nebraska. Delwin taught agriculture at Macy High School and at the Adjustment Training School in Plankinton, SD. He moved back to Crofton to help his father farm and also worked at Gehl Manufacturing in Yankton. Delwin taught Machine Tool at Mike Durfee State Prison and retired about ten years ago.
Delwin loved tending to his farm and his livestock. He showed livestock and enjoyed teaching kids how to show at the County Fairs. He was a power lifter thru high school and college. Delwin was a current member of United Commercial Travelers and held local & state offices.
Survivors are his wife, Robin of Crofton; two children Tamara Walter of Crofton, D.C. Walter Jr. of Crofton; special friend Shirley & Darrell McCloud of Yankton, SD; brother Delmar Walter Jr. of Bloomfield; sister Linda and Roger Klausen of Laurel; numerous nieces and nephews; uncle Earl Tramp of Yankton, SD; aunt Sandra Taggart & family of Yankton, SD; many cousins.
Delwin was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Joe and Emma Walter; aunt Dolores Tramp.
