Gary Lee Wahl, age 68, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Thursday, January 21, 2016.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Yankton, South Dakota. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton.
Gary Lee Wahl was born July 27, 1947, in Emery, South Dakota, to Alfred and Bernice (Gross) Wahl. He grew up in Emery and graduated from Emery High School in 1965. Gary attended South Dakota State University in Brookings for a few years until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1970. He served in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1971. After the war, Gary finished his education at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota, graduating with a Bachelor's of Science Degree. He moved to Yankton, South Dakota where he began working for the State of South Dakota. Years later he moved to Sioux City, Iowa and spent the next few years working at IBP. Gary enjoyed fishing and baseball.
Survivors include his brother, Sidney (Deb) Wahl of Elk Point, South Dakota; sister, Carol Wahl of Alexandria, Minnesota; and two nephews: Brian (Amber) Wahl of Sidney, Nebraska and Jake (Tracy) Wahl of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Keith Wahl.

I attended SDSU with Gary. We enjoyed many morning coffees and few after noon beers. He was a great guy. I also went to Vietnam and lost track of him. R.I.P. my friend.
