Dolores Irene Thoene, age 93 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Hartington.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, at church from 2-4:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Jeff Bruning, Pat Bruning, Ben Pinkelman, Matt Thoene, Glen Thoene, Wes Thoene, Wade Thoene, Hal Thoene and Mark Thoene.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dolores' granddaughters: Laurie Lammers, Kim Puntney, Sara Brown, Josie Cannon, Becky Pinkelman, Kay Hindt, Michelle Fouts, Amy Burbach, and Lisa Davis.

Dolores "Toots" was born on February 26, 1923 in Stuart, Nebraska to John and Ida (Friedel) Steinhauser. She grew up in the Stuart, Nebraska area and graduated from Stuart High School. Dolores went to Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD for nurses training in 1942 for 2 ½ years and then had six months of training at the Army Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. She graduated from Nursing in August of 1945 and then worked for five years in Luverne, Minnesota, Woodland, California, and Laramie, Wyoming. Dolores married Alton "Dick" G. Thoene of October 4, 1950 in Stuart, NE. Six children were born from this union. Dolores went back to work in 1965 at Sacred Heart Hospital and then later worked at the Yankton Human Services Center until she retired in May of 1985. Dolores and Dick lived on the family farm which was homesteaded by his grandfather from 1950-1980. They moved into Hartington in 1980.

Dolores was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a member of its Perpetual Adoration. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers, the Hartington VFW Post 5283 Auxiliary, and the Wynot American Legion Auxiliary. She liked to play cards, loved her poodles, crocheting, making afghans for her grandkids. She made great apple pies, and angel food cakes for all her kids' birthdays.

She is survived by her six children and spouses, Susan Thoene of Hartington, Sharleen and Bob Bruning of Wynot, Donna and Ed Koch of Fordyce, Violet and Stephen Pinkelman of Wynot, Robert and Laureen Thoene of Bow Valley, Bill and Marilyn Thoene of Hartington; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Edith "Punk" Steinhauser of Stuart, NE; brother-in-law Charles and wife Ruth Thone of Lincoln, NE.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alton "Dick" on October 16, 2014 at the age of 92 years; and brother Harvey Steinhauser.

Delores was a wonderful person and touched many lives, I enjoyed working with her at Sacred Heart in the 60's. She is at rest, watching and guiding each thru your daily lives. We are remembering her & you in our daily Prayers.
