Alice Marie Suing, age 75 of Norfolk, Nebraska died on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Coleridge, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 6:00 pm at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Alice's grandsons, John Reeves, Matthew Reeves, Adam Hoff, Kory Schaefer, Kyle Schaefer, Kelby Schaefer, Christian Schaefer, and Colton Schaefer.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Angela Hoff, Laura Reeves, Erin Reeves, Jessica Sheil, Marc Sheil, Lyndsey Sheil, and Sierra Sheil.

Alice Marie Suing was born on November 22, 1938 in Fordyce, Nebraska to Edward Anton and Rose Catherine (Bonertz) Thoene. She grew up in the Fordyce area and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1956. Alice married John J. Schaefer Jr. on April 15, 1958 in Fordyce. She and John farmed east of Coleridge, NE. John Schaefer died on April 30, 1981 at his residence at the age of 47 years. Alice then married John B. Suing on May 13, 1983 in Coleridge. She and John Suing lived in Hartington and Alice worked at the Cedar County Veterinary Clinic and at the Hartington Nursing Center. John Suing died on May 17, 2011 at the age of 80 years. She moved to Norfolk, NE in September, 2012.

Alice was member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its guild, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America, the Hartington VFW Auxiliary Post #5283, and prayed the rosary daily. She enjoyed following her children and grandchildren's activities, visiting with her friends and playing cards. Most of all, she loved the time spent with her family and cherished being with the little ones.

Alice is survived by four children and their spouses, Geralda and Jim Reeves of Madison, NE, Galen and Lori Schaefer of Bloomfield, NE, Rich and Loyla Schaefer of Norfolk, NE, Renee and Ted Sheil of Lincoln, NE; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two brothers and spouses Ralph and Cindy Thoene of Sioux Falls, SD, Jerome and Arlyce Thoene of Fordyce, NE; one sister Arlene and husband Jack Fischer of Norfolk, NE; one brother-in-law Joe and wife Betty Schaefer of Hartington, NE; sisters-in-law AnnaMarie Schaefer of Randolph, NE, Viola Suing of Hartington, NE, Lena Suing of Sioux Falls, SD, Lorine Miller of Sioux City, IA, Clare Yeaton of Dover, NH; brother-in-law Laurel Kock of Des Moines, IA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, son Mark Schaefer, brothers-in-law Irvin Schaefer, Norbert Schaefer, James Suing, Jerome Suing, Dan Suing; sisters-in-law Mary Schaefer, Elizabeth Bowe, Eleanor Hare, Elizabeth Suing, Helen Suing, Madeline Cisney, Gertrude Laux, Catherine Kock, Mathilda Suing, and Gertrude Suing.
