Allen E. Sudbeck 85 of Hartington, Nebraska died on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at his residence, after a 15 year battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington with military rites by the Hartington VFW Post 5283 and the American Legion Riders. Visitation will be on Thursday, at church, from 5-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday one hour prior to services at church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Sudbeck, Brandon Kathol, Aaron Sudbeck, Chris Schmidt, Tyler Potts, Ross Sudbeck, Ryan Sudbeck, and Matt Sudbeck.
Allen Edwin Sudbeck was born on January 12, 1930 in Hartington to Paul and Frances (Thoene) Sudbeck. He attended Bow Valley grade school and attended one year at Holy Trinity High School in Hartington. Allen farmed with his dad and worked for many farmers in the Hartington area. He worked for John Kathol in Bow Valley for a short time. Allen served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He married Jolene Suing on April 21, 1954 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. They moved on a farm Northeast of Hartington where Allen farmed with his 2 sons until he retired in 2013. He and Jolene moved into Hartington in 1995.
Allen was a member of Holy Trinity parish and its Perpetual Adoration, Hartington VFW Post #5283, Bow Valley Park Association. He enjoyed farming and repairing tractors and farm machinery, traveling, camping, playing cards, teasing his grandchildren, and spending time with his family.
Allen is survived by his wife Jolene of Hartington; eight children and spouses, Cynthia Sudbeck of Hartington, Cherlyn and Stan Sudbeck of Hartington, Susan and John Kramer of Hartington, Daniel and Lisa Sudbeck of Bow Valley, Sheila and Kenny Schmidt of Hartington, Carol and Dave Potts of Hartington, Cathy Sudbeck and special friend Jim Gevens of Yankton, SD, Daryl and Diane Sudbeck of Hartington; 27 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one brother Norman and wife Delores Sudbeck of Hartington; three sisters and spouses Maureen and Art Kathol of Bow Valley, Janet Stratman of St. Helena, Mildred Bracht of West Point; aunts Julia Uhing of Coleridge, Evelyn Schaeffer of Yankton; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Jody Kathol; two great grandsons Alex and Taylor Becker, two brothers-in-law Kenny Stratman and Norbert Bracht.
