LaVern J. Strivens, age 81 of Dixon, Nebraska died on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, NE with the Rev. Russ Lambert officiating. Burial will be at the Coleridge City Cemetery, Coleridge, NE. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Strivens, Jason Strivens, Adam Burns, Nathan Burns, Curtis Hassler, Michael Strivens, and Eric Tanderup. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Haase, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandson.
LaVern Joann Strivens was born on July 19, 1935 in rural Obert, Nebraska to Walter Carl and Violet Lillian (Anderson) Johnson. She grew up in the Obert area and attended school there. LaVern married Clifford Dale Strivens on July 29, 1951 in Coleridge, NE. She and Clifford farmed in the Coleridge and Hartington areas for 10 years. LaVern worked as a cook at the Dixon Grade School, at Bob's Bar in Martinsburg, and at Eunie's Palace in Dixon. She also worked for the Village of Dixon.
LaVern liked playing cards, fishing, horseshoes, and playing shuffleboard.
She is survived by her four children and spouses, Dale and Barb Strivens of Allen, NE, Gaylord Lee and Nadine Strivens of Pickstown, SD, Linda and Monte Burns of Laurel, Ken Strivens of Laurel, NE; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sister Viola (Frank) Weatherwax of Niobrara, NE; two brothers Walter Carl Johnson of Liberty, KS, Charles & wife Mary Johnson of Rutledge, MN; brother-in-law Don Strivens of Redfield, SD.
LaVern was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifford on August 25, 2004 at the age of 76 years; infant son Michael; granddaughter Nicole Burns; sister Donna Jean Konken; two brothers-in-law Elmer Konken and Wendell Konken.

I am so very sorry to hear of LaVern's passing. I will always remember the way her eyes sparkled when she smiled. I pray you find peace and comfort during the days ahead. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
We are so very sorry for the families loss. LaVern was a lot of fun. Her eyes were such a beautiful blue. LaVern was a cousin. Her mother and my mother were sisters.
I know you all will miss her. You are blessed by the legacy and love she has left in all your hearts.
